Lampwork is a type of flameworking that uses a torch to melt and shape glass. After the glass is heated to a molten state, it is shaped by blowing and shaping it using special tools. Modern glass blowers mostly work with an oxygen-propane torch, to be able to process all types of glass quickly and efficiently. The temperature of the glass blowing torch flame reaches 2400⁰C, and the 6-7 outlet nozzle holes for the propane-oxygen mixture create a dense and efficient flame with high heat transfer, allowing to process hard glass as well.
Borosilicate glass is the most difficult to process. Borosilicate glass begins to deform at a temperature of about 650 ⁰C, and melts and flows like water at a temperature of about 870⁰C. Glassblowing falls within this range… Most glass shaping occurs at temperatures between 870-1040°C, when the molten glass glows bright orange.
